Bryan will turn up heat on Government over cuts

Monday, October 12th, 2009

John Bryan has committed to mount a vigorous campaign to reverse the cutbacks in farming implemented by the Government if he is elected as President of the IFA in the upcoming elections.

At numerous events throughout the country, John has tasted first hand the anger of farmers who are suffering folowing a series of cuts to their income.

John has promised that, if he was elected as IFA president, he would substantially turn up the heat on the Government, the meat factories and the supermarkets.

“The Government has completely reneged on the last two partnership deals negotiated by the IFA, and farmers will not take this betrayal lying down,” he said.

“The supermarkets are second only to the banks in the way they have ripped off the Irish economy.”

John Bryan’s track record in negotiating and delivering real benefits for farmers and the agri-food sector are proof positive that John will be a President who can effectively represent farmers and the agriculture sector. As chairman of the IFA national livestock committee, John played a crucial role in the decision to ban Brazilian beef imports into the EU.

“Farmers are undergoing a period of unprecedented difficulty. I am offering myself as a candidate for the position of IFA president because I believe I have the track record, the energy and the vision to provide strong and effective leadership,” he said.
